Mode of Communication - Total Communication since 1996
Admissions: No child with deafness refused admission; children with problems additional to deafness admitted; admissions through the year; older children with deafness admitted.
Mainstreaming: Over 105 students have been completely mainstreamed into hearing schools over the years.
Two mediums of instruction, Gujarati and Hindi.
Students: Akshar is the earliest and 1 of only 6 Schools for the deaf in Gujarat, which is preparing students for Std. 12 Gujarat State board exams; till date 177 deaf students of Akshar have completed std. X & XII of Gujarat State Board.
Development of Language and communication Skills; Auditory Training; Working with Amplification Devices–Programmable hearing aids for 80% students; Check List for maintenance; Speech Software; Speech Trainers.

Students come from all socio-economic backgrounds.
100% of the students are subsidized. Not even one student has paid the required fees.

Akshar is the only school, out of 38 for the deaf in Gujarat, which also offers Hindi as a separate medium of instruction, apart from Gujarati.

Subsidies :Students come from all socio-economic backgrounds but largely from the underprivileged section; 100% of the students are subsidized, not even one student has paid the required fees; all 3 buses are subsidized; free hearing aids, ancillaries and audiogram are provided for underprivileged students.
