Students have graduated from M. S. University, Gujarat University and Sardar Patel University in Commerce, Arts and Family Studies. 5 have completed M.Com. Manushi Gandhi is studying Architecture at M. S. University. Our first engineer, Rahul Kanojiya, cleared B.E. Mechanical in 2017.
Three Teacher Training Programmes are running .Two for many years and nearly 378 trainees have completed either Diploma or B.Ed (Distance). They can be employed anywhere in India. A new Advanced Certificate Course in Cross-Disability has recently started.
Since 2004 Akshar has been spearheading 'Capacity Building' in the field of deaf education. It initiated the Gujarat Chapter of the National Convention of Educators of the Deaf (NCED). This works at the grass-root level to upgrade the skills of educators. At the national level, Ms. Nisha Grover has been President of NCED-India for 2 terms. The Principal, Ms. Hema Kale, is now on the Governing Council of NCED. Capacity Building of other Special Schools for the Deaf in Gujarat has also begun. The first such programme has been initiated with a Special School in Bharuch in 2016.
Employability is the new area of focus and Akshar has been helping the alumni for employment . Many alumni are in well-paid jobs in executive positions. Skill development courses have also begun with the corporate support of PMC Consulting. Our Alumni are working at various organizations including DCB Bank, Paul Mason Consulting(U.K. Based Company ) And may more..
Akshar Trust received an 'Award for Excellence 2011' from Federation of Gujarat Industries and 'True Impact Awards, 2016' of the Vadodara District CSR Cell under the Chairpersonship of Mrs. A. Singh, Collector . Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) has given 'Permanent Recognition' to the Teacher Training and the Trust was given Accredited Status by RCI for 'Very Good Performance', 2009. Akshar has been accredited by Credibility Alliance in February, 2016 and Empanelled with the National CSR Hub of Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
As the new campus is beyond the city limits,3 new buses donated by ONGC, Kotch Glitch and State Bank of India transport the students, trainees and staff. This has added to the costs. For 28 years the children have paid less than 50% for transport.
In 30 years no student has paid what it costs Akshar for their education. There is no funding provided, till date, by the Govt. of Gujarat. Donations to the Trust are exempted under section 80-G of Income Tax Act 1961. No hearing-impaired child is refused admission and children with problems additional to deafness are also admitted.
10 students of Std.10 and Std.12 cleared the Gujarat State Board Exams 2022.
